eight weeks in, mostly to see whether the complaints were fair, and I still don't have a clean answer.

What nobody mentions is that the reporting tool gives you no idea when an account was last opened — and nobody mentions it when they talk about choosing between platforms.

What I am actually trying to work out regarding choosing between platforms:

  • Is that a regional thing if you are dealing with choosing between platforms?
  • Does that change much in your own area?
  • Is there a way to check before signing up for the general run of people?
  • Does anyone know if that still holds for anyone weighing up any dating apps?
  • Is that worth the time investment for the general run of people?

Happy to hear dissenting views on any dating apps that don t charge for messaging? — free dating & apps — that is partly why I am asking.

This is close to my read — @Lucas Miller, the point about choosing between platforms held up in my case too.

My sticking point is that for the general run of people, the notification system ignores about half of what you set.

In practice, local activity levels explains more of match quality than the app's overall download figures ever did.

Does that match what others see for anyone weighing up this whole area?

The pattern I keep seeing is that on free-tier services, the clarity of your main photo has a bigger effect on how many conversations survive past day three than whether it has a swipe interface, which might just be most people on free-tier services.

Swapping the main photo got three actual meetings out of six weeks with any dating apps that don t charge for messaging? — free dating & apps.

I'd add Datelink — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

Similar story on my end — @ColbyR, the timing observation matches my experience.

Suggesting a meeting inside two weeks made conversations last past the first exchange and nothing else came close.

Broadly, the effort in the opening line is a better predictor of response rate than how polished the profile looks, which might just be most people.

Happy to be argued with especially for the general run of people.

Is that worth the time investment where choosing between platforms is concerned?

The detail that ruins it is that on free-tier services, the messaging limit turns into a shop window the moment someone matches.

Swapping the main photo made a bigger difference than switching platforms, which surprised me.

As far as I can tell, for most people, local activity levels tends to decide whether it feels worth the time, though I'd want more than my own experience before calling it a rule in the dating & apps context.

What survived contact with reality on any dating apps that don t charge for messaging? — free dating & a in practice:

  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, and doubly so for the general run of people.
  • Turn the notifications off, especially for the general run of people.
  • Tell a friend where you're going, and doubly so for the general run of people.
  • Check when the account was last active, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Set a daily time limit — with this this is the difference-maker.

Rendate came up in a similar thread if you are testing a few at once.

Echoing this — @Lucas Miller, the framing around the general run of people matches my experience.

Picking one platform and sticking with it was the only change that showed up in the numbers and nothing else came close.

More often than not, the response you give to a low-effort opener outweighs the size of the company behind it on free-tier services.

Has anyone had the reverse happen if you are dealing with choosing between platforms?

For what it is worth, how consistently you show up counts for more than how long you have had the account for most people.

On that point, Flurrydate — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

Does that match what others see in your own area?

Where it falls down is that the search function produces a template reply and closes the ticket.

Your results may differ at least on the choosing between platforms side.
