Came to those local sex finder sites ever actually work in smaller towns? — lo because the alternative was doing nothing, gave it an embarrassing amount of time, and a couple of things stood out.

The part nobody warns you about is that the discovery feed surfaces profiles that haven't been touched in months — and nobody mentions it when they talk about the comparison problem.

Leading with something slightly odd cut the wasted time by more than half and nothing else came close for the general run of people.

Direct experience of those local sex finder sites ever actually work in smaller towns? — lo is what I am after.

On balance, the boost you paid for gets the credit but how recently a profile was active does the work on the sites.

Has anyone tested this recently once you factor in the comparison problem?

I want to gently disagree. @Scarlett Harris, the advice about calling early may have been better luck than most get.

The part nobody warns you about is that the photo verification step rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest, which is the real problem with the sites.

My rules for the comparison problem, such as they are:

  • Move to a voice or video call early, especially for the general run of people.
  • Put something concrete in the opener — it filters out most of the time-wasters immediately.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, which matters most on the sites.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished, because it is the one thing that transfers across every app.

Is there a way to check before signing up on the sites?

My working theory is that nothing changes match quality as much as the amount of detail in a bio when it comes to towns? — lo.

Datewander came up in a similar thread if you want something to compare against.

Swapping the main photo was the only change that showed up in the numbers, which surprised me.

In practice, on the sites, how quickly you reply beats which tier you are on for the general run of people.

Take what is useful and leave the rest at least on the the comparison problem side.

Does anyone know if that still holds once you factor in the comparison problem?

Is anyone getting different results for the average user?

Where it falls down is that the support inbox shows the same faces on a loop.

On the sites, setting fixed hours for it got three actual meetings out of six weeks.

Things I wish someone had said about towns? — lo:

  • Put something concrete in the opener, because it is the one thing that transfers across every app.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, especially for the general run of people.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, particularly on the sites.
  • Set a daily time limit, especially for the general run of people.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, because the cost of getting it wrong is high and the cost of getting it right is nothing.

I would add Datescout purely on how busy it is locally.

Broadly, the gap between how often you open the app and how long you have had the account is where match quality is actually decided.

Worth testing rather than taking my word where the comparison problem is concerned.

For the general run of people, deleting everything and starting over made conversations last past the first exchange for the average user.

Broadly, how well a platform handles reports beats the feature list for the general run of people where the comparison problem is concerned.

Been running Datewander in parallel and the activity level was better than I expected.

That is where I've got to especially for the general run of people.

Is there a way to check before signing up outside your local area?

For the general run of people, cutting the match list right down made a bigger difference than switching platforms with those local sex.

How well a platform handles reports explains more of whether it feels worth the time than the size of the company behind it ever did, though a friend had the reverse experience for the average user.

The part nobody warns you about is that the recommendation engine ignores about half of what you set, especially once the comparison problem comes into it.

Adding Flamedate to the list and the activity level was better than I expected.

I would push back a little. @Scarlett Harris, the note on the sites did not hold for me.

My sticking point is that the notification system quietly stops working after the first week, which is the real problem with the sites.

In practice, whether the photos look like the same person explains more of the proportion of real accounts you see than which tier you're on ever did when it comes to those local sex finder sites ever actually work in smaller towns? — lo specifically those local sex finder sites ever actually work in smaller towns? — lo problem.

That is my read, not gospel at least on the the comparison problem side.

Has anyone tested this recently with the sites?

For what it is worth, on the sites, how specific you're about what you want predicts match quality better than the app's overall download figures.
