the better part of two years of trying to work out still use free personals sections on local community boards? — local &, mostly to see whether the complaints were fair, and my view has shifted twice since.

What wore me down was that the notification system buries you the moment you stop checking daily — and nobody mentions it when they talk about filtering the noise.

On balance, how often you open the app has a bigger effect on how many conversations survive past day three than the app's star rating for people without a niche where filtering the noise is concerned.

For anyone who has used free-tier services recently:

  • Does that match what others see once you factor in filtering the noise?
  • Does that change much if you are dealing with filtering the noise?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions where filtering the noise is concerned?
  • Is that worth the time investment for people without a niche?
  • Is anyone getting different results on free-tier services?

Interested in what is actually working on fresh input on still use free personals sections on local community boards? — local & right now.

Dropping the filters turned it from a chore into something workable and nothing else came close.

On balance, when filtering the noise is the issue, how quickly you reply does more for whether it feels worth the time than the marketing on the homepage.

Worth a look at Datebie as well and there is no paywall on the basics.

Going to be the dissenting voice. @ZoeOnline, the paywall comment produced nothing on my end.

On free-tier services, answering within a day produced better matches within about ten days.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the app's overall download figures gets the credit but how narrow your filters are does the work.

Would like to hear a counter-argument when it comes to still use free personals sections on local community boards? — local &.

Echoing this — @Aaron Hall, the profile-quality point is exactly right.

For people without a niche, picking one platform and sticking with it made a bigger difference than switching platforms.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the verification flow turns into a shop window the moment someone matches — and nobody mentions it when they talk about filtering the noise.

That is my read, not gospel at least on the filtering the noise side.

The part nobody warns you about is that the notification system produces a template reply and closes the ticket — and nobody mentions it when they talk about filtering the noise.

As far as I can tell, whether you actually read the profile is a better predictor of response rate than which platform you picked, although the platforms change constantly where filtering the noise is concerned.

Is that a regional thing once you factor in filtering the noise?

When filtering the noise is the issue, whether the photos look like the same person makes more difference than the number of prompts you filled in, though a friend had the reverse experience.

Practical notes on filtering the noise:

  • Move to a voice or video call early — it is the difference between a reply and silence.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, especially for people without a niche.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, especially for people without a niche.
  • Let a stalled conversation go if filtering the noise is your main concern.
  • Read the profile before you send anything, and doubly so for people without a niche.

Take what is useful and leave the rest where filtering the noise is concerned.

My experience was almost the opposite. @Aaron Hall, the paywall comment is closer to the opposite in my experience.

How quickly you reply does more for the proportion of real accounts you see than how many matches you accumulate.

Reading profiles properly before swiping got three actual meetings out of six weeks, which surprised me.

I would add Turndate and there is no paywall on the basics.

Worth testing rather than taking my word at least on the filtering the noise side.

Strongly agree — @Chloe Thompson, the point about filtering the noise is the one I'd emphasise.

For people without a niche, dropping the filters cut the wasted time by more than half.

On balance, the effort in the opening line predicts how many replies you get in a week better than the marketing on the homepage for people without a niche.

Would that apply in a smaller town for anyone weighing up the question?
