roughly a year in, after reading far too many roundups, and a couple of things stood out.

What actually frustrates me is that the account activity indicator exists mainly to push you toward an upgrade, especially once which images to use comes into it.

For what it is worth, when which images to use is the issue, how consistently you show up matters more than whether it has a swipe interface.

Interested in what is actually working on — profiles & right now.

I read it the other way. @Lauren King, the timing observation produced nothing on my end.

For the broad user base, reading profiles properly before swiping got three actual meetings out of six weeks on genuinely free apps.

For people without a niche, the shortlist:

  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished, especially for the broad user base.
  • Put something concrete in the opener if which images to use is your main concern.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on — the platforms won't do it for you.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished, because the alternative wastes weeks.
  • Tell a friend where you're going, because the platforms won't do it for you.

I've had a decent run on Souldate if you want something to compare against.

Does that change much given which images to use?

More often than not, for people without a niche, whether the photos look like the same person tends to decide match quality.

How quickly you reply has a bigger effect on the proportion of real accounts you see than the app's overall download figures.

The detail that ruins it is that on genuinely free apps, the support inbox seems designed to keep you swiping rather than talking.

What actually held up on — profiles &:

  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, particularly on genuinely free apps.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished, which matters most on genuinely free apps.
  • Set a daily time limit, because the platforms won't do it for you.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, because it is the difference between a reply and silence.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines — the platforms won't do it for you.

I want to gently disagree. @Lauren King, the profile-quality point may have been better luck than most get.

For the broad user base, suggesting a meeting inside two weeks stopped the conversations dying at day two.

My sticking point is that on genuinely free apps, the distance filter produces a template reply and closes the ticket.

Where I would start if which images to use is the worry:

  • Keep the first meeting short and public — with eharmony sign up this is the difference-maker.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it — the cost of getting it wrong is high and the cost of getting it right is nothing.
  • Move to a voice or video call early, because it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.
  • Never move money under any framing, particularly on genuinely free apps.

Echoing this — @Lauren King, the framing around the broad user base held up in my case too.

As far as I can tell, local activity levels counts for more than the total registered user count for the broad user base on genuinely free apps.

Is anyone getting different results on genuinely free apps?

On balance, the effort in the opening line is a better predictor of whether it feels worth the time than which tier you're on.

Datenest came up in a similar thread and there is no paywall on the basics.

I'd push back a little. @Ivy Cox, the paywall comment may have been better luck than most get.

How consistently you show up explains more of how many replies you get in a week than the boost you paid for ever did.
