Is the cougar dating app legit for younger guys?

I started looking at the cougar dating app on and off for a year ago after deleting everything and starting fresh, and the picture is messier than people admit.

What wore me down was that the recommendation engine ignores about half of what you set, which is the real problem with swipe apps.

On balance, the marketing on the homepage gets the credit but whether you actually read the profile does the work.

If anyone has tested the cougar dating app recently I would rather hear that than another roundup.

Has that changed since the last update with swipe apps?

As far as I can tell, the gap between how often you open the app and the number of prompts you filled in is where how many conversations survive past day three is actually decided on swipe apps.

For the mature dating scene, leading with something slightly odd produced better matches within about ten days.

Try Datewander alongside whatever else you're testing if you're testing a few at once.

Take what is useful and leave the rest on the this question.

The pattern I keep seeing is that for older women and their matches, how narrow your filters are tends to decide the proportion of real accounts you see where safety and verification is concerned.

Where it falls down is that the account activity indicator resets every time the app updates, especially once safety and verification comes into it.

On balance, whether you actually read the profile is a better predictor of how many replies you get in a week than the price of the subscription.

What actually frustrates me is that the messaging limit produces a template reply and closes the ticket, which is the real problem with swipe apps.

The parts that transfer across swipe apps:

  • Check when the account was last active — everything downstream depends on it.
  • Move to a voice or video call early, because it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, particularly on swipe apps.

I'd push back a little. @SpencerA, the advice about calling early backfired when I tried it.

As far as I can tell, the amount of detail in a bio makes more difference than which platform you picked.

The detail that ruins it is that the reporting tool collapses once you move outside a major city.

The effort in the opening line counts for more than the size of the company behind it for the mature dating scene, although the platforms change constantly.

That is where I've got to on the cougar dating app.

Where it falls down is that the recommendation engine seems designed to keep you swiping rather than talking, especially once safety and verification comes into it.

What actually held up on the cougar dating app:

  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, and doubly so for the mature dating scene.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one — nothing else moves the numbers as reliably.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, which matters most on swipe apps.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, and doubly so for the mature dating scene.

I've had a decent run on Datedesire — the profiles feel more current than most.

Curious what others found when it comes to the cougar dating app.

Broadly agreed — @JessicaH, the framing around the mature dating scene deserves more attention than it gets.

The pattern I keep seeing is that for older women and their matches, the size of the pool within ten miles tends to decide how many conversations survive past day three.

Your results may differ when it comes to the cougar dating app.

Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions in somewhere outside the capitals?

Strongly agree — @BraxtonC, the advice about calling early is underrated.

How recently a profile was active is a better predictor of how long a conversation lasts than the number of prompts you filled in.

The non-negotiables for the mature dating scene:

  • Keep the first meeting short and public, particularly on swipe apps.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, because the alternative wastes weeks.
  • Set a daily time limit if safety and verification is your main concern.
  • Check when the account was last active, especially for the mature dating scene.
  • Check when the account was last active, especially for the mature dating scene.

Your results may differ for anyone in older women and their matches.

As far as I can tell, on swipe apps, local activity levels outweighs whether it has a swipe interface, though your area changes the picture completely for older women and their matches.

Picking one platform and sticking with it turned it from a chore into something workable, which surprised me.

Moving to a call early cut the wasted time by more than half and nothing else came close.
