Came to match dating website better for older or younger crowds? — free dating after moving to a new city, gave it two months, and here is roughly where I landed.

Where it falls down is that on no-payment platforms, the recommendation engine collapses once you move outside a major city.

Open questions, if anyone has dealt with match dating website better for older or younger crowds? — free dating:

  • Is there a way to check before signing up where profile visibility is concerned?
  • Does that hold outside the big cities once you factor in profile visibility?
  • Has anyone compared the two directly where profile visibility is concerned?
  • Does that match what others see given profile visibility?

Direct experience of that side of it is what I'm after.

Is that a regional thing for anyone in the average user?

In practice, how often you open the app has a bigger effect on how many replies you get in a week than how polished the profile looks for most of us.

My sticking point is that the discovery feed exists mainly to push you toward an upgrade — and nobody mentions it when they talk about profile visibility.

The pattern I keep seeing is that for the average user, local activity levels tends to decide how long a conversation lasts on no-payment platforms.

Suggesting a meeting inside two weeks stopped the conversations dying at day two and nothing else came close for most of us.

Same experience here — @BrandonW, the bit about local activity held up in my case too.

My working theory is that the gap between how quickly you reply and how long you have had the account is where how many replies you get in a week is actually decided.

I've had a decent run on Datenest purely on how busy it is locally.

Seconding this — @AndrewL, the argument about verification is spot on.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the verification flow collapses once you move outside a major city — and nobody mentions it when they talk about profile visibility.

Where it falls down is that the messaging limit surfaces profiles that haven't been touched in months — and nobody mentions it when they talk about profile visibility.

Flamedate is worth twenty minutes — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.

Does that hold outside the big cities for most of us?

The size of the company behind it gets the credit but whether you actually read the profile does the work for the average user.

The recurring problem is that the verification flow exists mainly to push you toward an upgrade — and nobody mentions it when they talk about profile visibility.

Does anyone know if that still holds in your local radius?

Pretty much this — @AndrewL, the framing around most of us is the whole thing really.

For most of us, saying plainly what I wasn't after roughly doubled the reply rate.

That is not how it went for me. @AndrewL, the argument about verification is closer to the opposite in my experience.

For most of us, answering within a day produced better matches within about ten days.

My working theory is that whether an account has been verified outweighs which tier you are on.

This is close to my read — @ColinR, the note on no-payment platforms deserves more attention than it gets.

What nobody mentions is that the messaging limit ignores about half of what you set.

What survived contact with reality on match dating website:

  • Keep the first meeting short and public — the cost of getting it wrong is high and the cost of getting it right is nothing.
  • Put something concrete in the opener if profile visibility is your main concern.
  • Set a daily time limit, especially for most of us.

Rendate came up in a similar thread and there is no paywall on the basics.

Can confirm — @AlexisF, the argument about verification is the one I would emphasise.

What nobody mentions is that for most of us, the profile editor throttles how many people can actually see you.

My working theory is that when profile visibility is the issue, how narrow your filters are has a bigger effect on response rate than the number of prompts you filled in.
