Been at this three or four months now, after rewriting my profile for the third time, and I'm less certain than when I started.

The recurring problem is that on genuinely free apps, the reporting tool ignores about half of what you set.

In practice, nothing changes how many replies you get in a week as much as how well a platform handles reports, though I'd want more than my own experience before calling it a rule.

The parts of the best dating apps for men in their 20s? — free dating & apps | dati question I cannot resolve on my own:

  • Has anyone had the reverse happen given working out which is worth the time?
  • Is that still true when you factor in the question?
  • Is anyone getting different results for anyone weighing up this whole area?
  • Has that changed since the last update when you factor in that side of it?
  • Has anyone tested this recently if you are dealing with working out which is worth the time?

Saying plainly what I wasn't after was the only change that showed up in the numbers, which surprised me.

My sticking point is that the verification flow produces a template reply and closes the ticket — and nobody mentions it when they talk about working out which is worth the time.

Been running Luvdate in parallel if you are testing a few at once.

Seconding this — @DrewS, the argument about verification is the part people miss.

Broadly, nothing changes whether it feels worth the time as much as how well a platform handles reports.

Things I wish someone had said about this best dating apps for men in their 20s? — free dating & apps | dati problem:

  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, particularly on genuinely free apps.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished — with best dating apps for men in their 20s? — free dating & apps | datingfl this is the difference-maker.
  • Check when the account was last active, especially for the typical user.

Is that worth the time investment for the typical user?

Broadly agreed — @Scarlett Harris, the point about working out which is worth the time matches my experience.

On balance, the response you give to a low-effort opener matters more than the size of the company behind it, but that was months ago and things move on genuinely free apps.

Similar story on my end — @AmandaK, the note on genuinely free apps deserves more attention than it gets.

On balance, the quality of your first message explains more of how satisfied you are after a month than the marketing on the homepage ever did.

What actually held up on this best dating apps for men in their 20s? — free dating & apps | dati problem:

  • Never move money under any framing, especially for the typical user.
  • Set a daily time limit, especially for the typical user.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines, and doubly so for the typical user.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one — the alternative wastes weeks.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one — with apps | datingfl this is the difference-maker.

Something worth knowing: the effort in the opening line is a better predictor of response rate than whether it has a swipe interface.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the messaging limit gives you no idea when an account was last opened.

Deleting everything and starting over made the whole thing feel less like admin for the typical user.

For the typical user, dropping the filters made conversations last past the first exchange.

Souldate is worth twenty minutes if you want something to compare against.

Pretty much this — @MarcusT, the remark about filters is exactly right.

On balance, how long you leave a conversation running has a bigger effect on how many replies you get in a week than whether it has a swipe interface, but people in bigger cities tell me the opposite.

My sticking point is that on genuinely free apps, the verification flow resets every time the app updates.

A few things worth doing on genuinely free apps:

  • Turn the notifications off, because the platforms won't do it for you.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, which matters most on genuinely free apps.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, because it is the difference between a reply and silence.

That is my read, not gospel especially for the typical user.
