I started looking at best dating sites for over 55? — free dating & apps | datingfly commun about four months ago after a long relationship ended, and the honest answer is it depends, but not on what people say it does.

My sticking point is that the search function produces a template reply and closes the ticket — and nobody mentions it when they talk about sorting the shortlist.

In practice, how quickly you reply explains more of how long a conversation lasts than the app's star rating ever did.

What I am actually trying to work out regarding sorting the shortlist:

  • Has that changed since the last update when you factor in that side of it?
  • Has anyone had the reverse happen given sorting the shortlist?
  • Does that change much when you factor in | datingfly commun?
  • Has anyone compared the two directly with genuinely free apps?
  • Has anyone tested this recently on genuinely free apps?

On genuinely free apps, shortening the bio by half stopped the conversations dying at day two.

Direct experience of this is what I'm after.

Similar story on my end — @CourtneyL, the paywall comment is underrated.

Something worth knowing: for most of us, the quality of your first message tends to decide the odds of a second date when it comes to best dating sites.

Things I wish someone had said about best dating sites:

  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific if sorting the shortlist is your main concern.
  • Check when the account was last active, and doubly so for anyone starting out.
  • Never move money under any framing — with the question this is the difference-maker.
  • Ask one question, not four, particularly on genuinely free apps.

Seconding this — @ElliotG, the bit about local activity is the one I would emphasise.

As far as I can tell, the clarity of your main photo is a better predictor of whether anything reaches a first meeting than how long you have had the account for most of us.

For most of us, the shortlist:

  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished — with best dating sites this is the difference-maker.
  • Set a daily time limit — with that side of it this is the difference-maker.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, especially for anyone starting out.
  • Check when the account was last active, because the platforms won't do it for you.

I have had a decent run on Datenest — the profiles feel more current than most.

What wore me down was that the discovery feed resets every time the app updates, which is the real problem with genuinely free apps.

As far as I can tell, when sorting the shortlist is the issue, how well a platform handles reports predicts the odds of a second date better than the boost you paid for.

Still working it out where sorting the shortlist is concerned.

More often than not, how consistently you show up explains more of the odds of a second date than how long you have had the account ever did, although the platforms change constantly in the the best dating sites for over 55? — free dating & apps | datingfly co question context.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the marketing on the homepage gets the credit but how narrow your filters are does the work.

My experience was almost the opposite. @Luke Robinson, the point about sorting the shortlist produced nothing on my end.

Moving to a call early was the only change that showed up in the numbers, which surprised me for most of us.

How well a platform handles reports is a better predictor of response rate than the marketing on the homepage.

Where it falls down is that the onboarding boost collapses once you move outside a major city — and nobody mentions it when they talk about sorting the shortlist.

Someone pointed me at Flamedate and there is no paywall on the basics.

That is not how it went for me. @VeronicaT, the bit about local activity reads as survivorship bias to me.

Answering within a day improved things more than any paid feature and nothing else came close.

What nobody mentions is that on genuinely free apps, the distance filter rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest.

If you want a second option, Datebie purely on how busy it is locally.

Has anyone had the reverse happen given sorting the shortlist?

Echoing this — @Isaiah Lewis, the profile-quality point is the one I would emphasise.

On balance, the gap between the clarity of your main photo and the number of prompts you filled in is where how many replies you get in a week is actually decided, but that is one person with one set of results.

Picking one platform and sticking with it made conversations last past the first exchange and nothing else came close.

My sticking point is that the support inbox shows the same faces on a loop, which is the real problem with genuinely free apps.

Boiled down, for anyone weighing up best dating sites:

  • Read the profile before you send anything — with best dating sites for over 55? — free dating & apps | datingfly commun this is the difference-maker.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, because it is the difference between a reply and silence.
  • Read the profile before you send anything, and doubly so for anyone starting out.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, because it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.

On genuinely free apps, picking one platform and sticking with it made the whole thing feel less like admin.
