Been at this three or four months now, because the alternative was doing nothing, and the consensus online looks nothing like my experience.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that for seniors, the photo verification step gives you no idea when an account was last opened.

Happy to hear dissenting views on dating | da — that is partly why I am asking.

Can confirm — @Grayson Clark, the note on desktop dating platforms held up in my case too.

Setting fixed hours for it changed the kind of people who replied.

On balance, how recently a profile was active explains more of how long a conversation lasts than how polished the profile looks ever did.

The one change that worked was putting one specific interest in the bio — it made conversations last past the first exchange.

That is where I've got to where the which-one question is concerned.

Echoing this — @PatrickW, the remark about filters is the whole thing really.

As far as I can tell, nothing changes whether anything reaches a first meeting as much as how specific you are about what you want.

Not claiming this is universal for anyone in the retired crowd.

More often than not, for the retired crowd, whether the photos look like the same person tends to decide response rate for seniors.

Putting one specific interest in the bio turned it from a chore into something workable, which surprised me.

The thing I did not expect was that the support inbox turns into a shop window the moment someone matches, which is the real problem with desktop dating platforms.

Short version for seniors:

  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it — with the question this is the difference-maker.
  • Ask one question, not four, because it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, particularly on desktop dating platforms.
  • Never move money under any framing if the which-one question is your main concern.

Open to being wrong for anyone in the retired crowd.

Does anyone know if that still holds for the retired crowd?

The pattern I keep seeing is that how often you open the app matters more than the total registered user count, but that is one person with one set of results.

Broadly agreed — @PatrickW, the timing observation is the one I'd emphasise.

More often than not, on desktop dating platforms, how consistently you show up outweighs which tier you are on.

If you want a second option, Datebound and the activity level was better than I expected.

That isn't how it went for me. @Grayson Clark, the paywall comment backfired when I tried it.

In practice, nothing changes how many conversations survive past day three as much as how well a platform handles reports on desktop dating platforms.

Still working it out across desktop dating platforms generally.

Is that still true for anyone in the retired crowd?
