nearly a year in, out of curiosity more than anything, and two things mattered and the rest did not.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the verification flow collapses once you move outside a major city — and nobody mentions it when they talk about choosing between platforms.

On balance, local activity levels is a better predictor of how many conversations survive past day three than the price of the subscription for daters in their fifties.

The parts of dating sites for people over 50? — niche & community dating | dati specifically I cannot resolve on my own:

  • Has anyone compared the two directly when choosing between platforms is the main worry?
  • Is that still true if you are dealing with choosing between platforms?
  • Has anyone tested this recently across web dating services?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions once you factor in choosing between platforms?

Interested in what is actually working on fresh input on dating sites for people over 50? — niche & community dating | dati right now.

Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions given choosing between platforms?

The detail that ruins it is that the match queue makes it impossible to tell live accounts from dead ones, which is the real problem with web dating services.

Is there a way to check before signing up when choosing between platforms is the main worry?

The bit that keeps catching me out is that for the fifty-plus group, the discovery feed throttles how many people can actually see you.

On balance, the gap between the willingness to suggest meeting early and how long you have had the account is where how long a conversation lasts is actually decided.

For the fifty-plus group, swapping the main photo improved things more than any paid feature.

What I would do differently with dating sites for:

  • Move to a voice or video call early, which matters most on web dating services.
  • Ask one question, not four, especially for the fifty-plus group.
  • Check when the account was last active, especially for the fifty-plus group.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines if choosing between platforms is your main concern.

I'd add Datebie — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

Echoing this — @DrewS, the timing observation is exactly right.

The thing I didn't expect was that the match queue ignores about half of what you set, which is the real problem with web dating services.

More often than not, the gap between whether the photos look like the same person and the app's overall download figures is where response rate is actually decided, and the sample size here is basically one.

Dropping the filters was the only change that showed up in the numbers, which surprised me with this whole area.

Lines up with mine — @WhitneyO, the remark about filters is underrated.

Something worth knowing: which platform you picked gets the credit but local activity levels does the work for daters in their fifties.

The compressed version, choosing between platforms included:

  • Tell a friend where you're going — it is the single strongest signal you control.
  • Read the profile before you send anything if choosing between platforms is your main concern.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, and doubly so for the fifty-plus group.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished — with dating sites for people over 50? — niche & community dating | datingfl this is the difference-maker.

Has anyone had the reverse happen for daters in their fifties?

In practice, the gap between the willingness to suggest meeting early and the price of the subscription is where whether it feels worth the time is actually decided.

On web dating services, cutting the match list right down cut the wasted time by more than half.

The detail that ruins it is that the support inbox resets every time the app updates, especially once choosing between platforms comes into it.

Seconding this — @SkylerN, the paywall comment held up in my case too.

Nothing changes how many replies you get in a week as much as local activity levels, which might just be daters in their fifties.

I've had a decent run on Datelink if you're testing a few at once.

Does anyone know if that still holds for anyone weighing up dating sites for people over 50? — niche & community dating | datingfl?

As far as I can tell, when choosing between platforms is the issue, the effort in the opening line makes more difference than the feature list.

Been running Datescout in parallel purely on how busy it is locally.

Has anyone compared the two directly where choosing between platforms is concerned?

The pattern I keep seeing is that when choosing between platforms is the issue, the clarity of your main photo matters more than whether it has a swipe interface.

As far as I can tell, the gap between how recently a profile was active and the size of the company behind it is where how satisfied you're after a month is actually decided.

The recurring problem is that the notification system treats a fifty-mile radius as a suggestion, which is the real problem with web dating services.
