I started looking at free dating sites that actually work for average guys? — free dating & a fortnight ago after reading far too many roundups, and my view has shifted twice since.

My sticking point is that the profile editor rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest.

For what it is worth, when the which-one question is the issue, how often you open the app predicts whether anything reaches a first meeting better than the app's overall download figures.

If you have opinions on free dating sites that actually work for average guys? — free dating &, especially unpopular ones, go ahead.

Dropping the filters roughly doubled the reply rate and nothing else came close.

Worth a look at Flamedate as well — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

Take what is useful and leave the rest on that side of it.

That tracks — @Aubrey Hall, the remark about filters is spot on.

For the typical user, the response you give to a low-effort opener tends to decide whether anything reaches a first meeting where the which-one question is concerned.

What I would tell someone starting on free dating &:

  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, especially for the general run of people.
  • Check when the account was last active — it is the difference between a reply and silence.
  • Set a daily time limit, especially for the general run of people.
  • Ask one question, not four, and doubly so for the general run of people.

Adjust for your own situation for anyone in the typical user.

As far as I can tell, nothing changes how many replies you get in a week as much as the willingness to suggest meeting early.

On genuinely free apps, saying plainly what I wasn't after made the whole thing feel less like admin.

Datenest came up in a similar thread — the profiles feel more current than most.

Worth testing rather than taking my word where the which-one question is concerned.

Is anyone getting different results where the which-one question is concerned?

Strongly agree — @Avery Jackson, the bit about local activity is spot on.

For what it is worth, how quickly you reply makes more difference than how long you have had the account.

Can confirm — @Amelia Brown, the point about the which-one question held up in my case too.

The detail that ruins it is that the search function produces a template reply and closes the ticket, especially once the which-one question comes into it.

Shortening the bio by half changed the kind of people who replied, which surprised me for the general run of people.

More often than not, the gap between how well a platform handles reports and the price of the subscription is where whether it feels worth the time is actually decided.

Datewander is another to throw in the mix if you are testing a few at once.

What wore me down was that the free tier produces a template reply and closes the ticket, especially once the which-one question comes into it.

Answering within a day made the whole thing feel less like admin, which surprised me.

If you want a second option, Datebie purely on how busy it is locally.
