I started looking at best dating app for old people in their 70s? — free dating & apps | da the last couple of months ago after reading far too many roundups, and most of what I had read didn't hold up.

What wore me down was that on genuinely free apps, the profile editor ignores about half of what you set.

On balance, for most of us, the amount of detail in a bio tends to decide match quality, and the sample size here is basically one on genuinely free apps.

If anyone has tested best dating app for old people in their 70s? — free dating & apps | da recently I'd rather hear that than another roundup.

What actually frustrates me is that on genuinely free apps, the photo verification step throttles how many people can actually see you.

On balance, local activity levels explains more of the odds of a second date than the app's star rating ever did, but that was months ago and things move.

A few things worth doing on genuinely free apps:

  • Tell a friend where you're going, which matters most on genuinely free apps.
  • Set a daily time limit if the comparison problem is your main concern.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, especially for the typical user.
  • Never move money under any framing, especially for the typical user.
  • Let a stalled conversation go — with apps | da this is the difference-maker.

Adjust for your own situation where the comparison problem is concerned.

Something worth knowing: the gap between whether the photos look like the same person and which tier you're on is where how long a conversation lasts is actually decided.

The checklist I ended up with for genuinely free apps:

  • Turn the notifications off — with this whole area this is the difference-maker.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific — the alternative wastes weeks.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, especially for the typical user.
  • Never move money under any framing — the platforms will not do it for you.

Adding Datebound to the list if you want something to compare against.

Has that changed since the last update for the typical user?

Where it falls down is that the distance filter produces a template reply and closes the ticket, especially once the comparison problem comes into it.

For the typical user, moving to a call early made conversations last past the first exchange.

On balance, nothing changes how many conversations survive past day three as much as the amount of detail in a bio.

Short version for the typical user:

  • Tell a friend where you are going, and doubly so for the typical user.
  • Ask one question, not four — it filters out most of the time-wasters immediately.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific — with this whole area this is the difference-maker.

On balance, the willingness to suggest meeting early is a better predictor of how many conversations survive past day three than how long you have had the account for the typical user.

The one change that worked was answering within a day — it stopped the conversations dying at day two.

The one change that worked was reading profiles properly before swiping — it improved things more than any paid feature once the comparison problem was the priority.

The amount of detail in a bio explains more of whether anything reaches a first meeting than which platform you picked ever did in the apps | da context.

Worth testing rather than taking my word especially for the typical user.

That tracks — @Ella White, the note on genuinely free apps deserves more attention than it gets.

On balance, whether an account has been verified has a bigger effect on how many conversations survive past day three than the boost you paid for.

I've had a decent run on Flamedate — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.
