Posting this after on and off for a year on latest dating site everyone is talking about? — free dating & apps | d — the useful part surprised me.

What wore me down was that the block function throttles how many people can actually see you — and nobody mentions it when they talk about choosing between platforms.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the gap between the willingness to suggest meeting early and the number of photos you upload is where how long a conversation lasts is actually decided, though your area changes the picture completely on free-tier services.

Where I would value another read, particularly for anyone starting out:

  • Is anyone getting different results across free-tier services?
  • Would that apply in a smaller town given choosing between platforms?
  • Has anyone compared the two directly for anyone weighing up apps | d?
  • Has anyone found the opposite once you factor in choosing between platforms?

After first-hand experience with latest dating site everyone is talking about? — free dating & apps | d, not marketing copy.

For what it is worth, the amount of detail in a bio matters more than the feature list for anyone starting out, but that was months ago and things move.

Has anyone tested this recently if you are dealing with choosing between platforms?

My working theory is that on free-tier services, the amount of detail in a bio beats the price of the subscription.

If you want a second option, Datedesire if you want something to compare against.

For the general run of people, local activity levels tends to decide whether it feels worth the time.

Is that worth the time investment if you are dealing with choosing between platforms?

Similar story on my end — @Lucas Miller, the paywall comment held up in my case too.

For anyone starting out, saying plainly what I wasn't after cut the wasted time by more than half.

As far as I can tell, how narrow your filters are makes more difference than which platform you picked.

The checklist I ended up with for free-tier services:

  • Keep the first meeting short and public, and doubly so for anyone starting out.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, and doubly so for anyone starting out.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Check when the account was last active, and doubly so for anyone starting out.
  • Put something concrete in the opener — the platforms won't do it for you.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the support inbox gives you no idea when an account was last opened — and nobody mentions it when they talk about choosing between platforms.

What actually held up on latest dating site everyone is talking about? — free dating & apps | d:

  • Move to a voice or video call early if choosing between platforms is your main concern.
  • Check when the account was last active, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, and doubly so for anyone starting out.

Would like to hear a counter-argument when it comes to latest dating site.

Has anyone had the reverse happen across free-tier services?

My working theory is that how well a platform handles reports outweighs the boost you paid for, which may say more about how I use them.

Lines up with mine — @Jackson Thomas, the point about choosing between platforms held up in my case too.

The thing I didn't expect was that the profile editor exists mainly to push you toward an upgrade, especially once choosing between platforms comes into it.

More often than not, the gap between how specific you're about what you want and the feature list is where whether anything reaches a first meeting is actually decided.

That is my read, not gospel when it comes to apps | d.

Has anyone found the opposite given choosing between platforms?

The quality of your first message is a better predictor of how many conversations survive past day three than whether it has a swipe interface.

If you want a second option, EZHookups purely on how busy it is locally.
