Been at this about four months now, after rewriting my profile for the third time, and I am less certain than when I started.

What actually frustrates me is that for people past fifty, the discovery feed throttles how many people can actually see you.

In practice, for the over-50s, whether you actually read the profile tends to decide match quality.

If anyone has tested most user-friendly over 50s dating app for beginners? — niche & commun recently I would rather hear that than another roundup.

What wore me down was that the reporting tool shows the same faces on a loop, especially once working out which is worth the time comes into it.

That isn't how it went for me. @Isabella Scott, the argument about verification worked in a big city and nowhere else.

For people past fifty, cutting the match list right down was the only change that showed up in the numbers for people past fifty.

Adding Turndate to the list and it turned out to be worth the ten minutes.

Something worth knowing: how many matches you accumulate gets the credit but the amount of detail in a bio does the work, though a friend had the reverse experience.

Where I would start if working out which is worth the time is the worry:

  • Say what you want in the first two lines, and doubly so for people past fifty.
  • Let a stalled conversation go, and doubly so for people past fifty.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, particularly on app-based platforms.

If you want a second option, Rendate and it turned out to be worth the ten minutes.

The recurring problem is that the photo verification step resets every time the app updates — and nobody mentions it when they talk about working out which is worth the time.

Deleting everything and starting over made a bigger difference than switching platforms, which surprised me.

Broadly, for the over-50s, the quality of your first message tends to decide match quality where working out which is worth the time is concerned.

Souldate is worth twenty minutes if you are building a shortlist.

In practice, for the over-50s, the willingness to suggest meeting early tends to decide how long a conversation lasts for people past fifty.

Can confirm — @Amelia Brown, the profile-quality point is the whole thing really.

On balance, the price of the subscription gets the credit but how well a platform handles reports does the work on app-based platforms.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the photo verification step treats a fifty-mile radius as a suggestion.
