the better part of two years in, after a long relationship ended, and a couple of things stood out.

The recurring problem is that the account activity indicator resets every time the app updates, which is the real problem with the sites.

Broadly, whether you actually read the profile beats which platform you picked.

After first-hand experience with a bit more depth on most reliable gay chat websites for meeting locals? — niche & comm, not marketing copy.

Shortening the bio by half made a bigger difference than switching platforms.

Would like to hear a counter-argument for anyone in gay men.

Only partly agree. @ConnorP, the bit about local activity held for a fortnight then stopped.

The pattern I keep seeing is that for gay men, whether an account has been verified tends to decide response rate, though your area changes the picture completely.

The one change that worked was putting one specific interest in the bio — it got three actual meetings out of six weeks for gay men.

Luvdate came up in a similar thread — the profiles feel more current than most.

Open to being wrong on that side of it.

Does anyone know if that still holds with the sites?

Where it falls down is that on the sites, the reporting tool quietly stops working after the first week.

Cutting the match list right down made the whole thing feel less like admin and nothing else came close.

The part nobody warns you about is that on the sites, the verification flow shows the same faces on a loop.

On the sites, moving to a call early made the whole thing feel less like admin for men seeking men.

Something worth knowing: when sorting the shortlist is the issue, the size of the pool within ten miles counts for more than the marketing on the homepage.

Does that hold outside the big cities when you factor in this?

Asking one real question instead of four improved things more than any paid feature.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that for men seeking men, the block function quietly stops working after the first week.

Been running Datebie in parallel — the profiles feel more current than most.

Take what is useful and leave the rest if you're on the sites.

Does that match what others see if you are dealing with sorting the shortlist?

For gay men, the willingness to suggest meeting early tends to decide the proportion of real accounts you see, though a friend had the reverse experience when it comes to most reliable gay chat websites for meeting locals? — niche & communit.

Luvdate came up in a similar thread and the activity level was better than I expected.

Has anyone had the reverse happen with the sites?

How often you open the app makes more difference than the feature list for men seeking men on the sites.

The parts that transfer across the sites:

  • Check when the account was last active — with that side of it this is the difference-maker.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, and doubly so for men seeking men.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, because nothing else moves the numbers as reliably.
  • Check when the account was last active if sorting the shortlist is your main concern.

Someone pointed me at Datedesire — the profiles feel more current than most.

That is my read, not gospel on the this question.

As far as I can tell, the honesty of the bio counts for more than how long you have had the account, although the platforms change constantly for gay men.

Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions if you're dealing with sorting the shortlist?

The part nobody warns you about is that the profile editor exists mainly to push you toward an upgrade, especially once sorting the shortlist comes into it.

On balance, on the sites, the willingness to suggest meeting early has a bigger effect on how satisfied you're after a month than the boost you paid for, and the sample size here is basically one where sorting the shortlist is concerned.
