a fortnight of trying to work out top rated dating sites? — free dating & apps | datingfly community, after reading far too many roundups, and here is roughly where I landed.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the recommendation engine rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest.

Something worth knowing: when narrowing the options is the issue, how narrow your filters are counts for more than how long you have had the account, though a friend had the reverse experience.

Direct experience of top rated dating sites? — free dating & apps | datingfly community is what I'm after.

I would frame that differently. @Chloe Thompson, the point about narrowing the options reads as survivorship bias to me.

On balance, the total registered user count gets the credit but the size of the pool within ten miles does the work, though your area changes the picture completely where narrowing the options is concerned.

My rules for narrowing the options, such as they are:

  • Check when the account was last active, which matters most on zero-cost platforms.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, because it is the one thing that transfers across every app.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone — with this whole area this is the difference-maker.
  • Ask one question, not four, especially for the broad user base.

Seconding this — @Chloe Thompson, the profile-quality point deserves more attention than it gets.

For the broad user base, moving to a call early cut the wasted time by more than half with top rated dating sites? — free dating & apps | datingfly community.

The thing I did not expect was that for the broad user base, the support inbox throttles how many people can actually see you.

On balance, the size of the pool within ten miles counts for more than how polished the profile looks.

What I would tell someone starting on this top rated dating sites? — free dating & apps | datingfly community problem:

  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, because the cost of getting it wrong is high and the cost of getting it right is nothing.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, and doubly so for the broad user base.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, because the platforms will not do it for you.

Try Rendate alongside whatever else you are testing and it turned out to be worth the ten minutes.

Leading with something slightly odd changed the kind of people who replied and nothing else came close for the broad user base.

Datescout came up in a similar thread — it does not gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

Same experience here — @AlexisF, the bit about local activity is exactly right.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the quality of your first message counts for more than how many matches you accumulate for the broad user base.

The checklist I ended up with for zero-cost platforms:

  • Read the profile before you send anything, especially for the broad user base.
  • Let a stalled conversation go if narrowing the options is your main concern.
  • Turn the notifications off, particularly on zero-cost platforms.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, particularly on zero-cost platforms.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, and doubly so for the broad user base.

Worth a look at Datescout as well and there is no paywall on the basics.
