Cam sites: understanding the cost model
Cam platforms are entertainment services with variable-cost billing, and the billing design is the thing most people fail to understand before their first session rather than after it.
The pricing model
- Tokens obscure the real rate deliberately. Convert to your own currency per hour before you begin.
- Private sessions are billed per minute and are usually many times the public rate.
- Tipping is voluntary regardless of how the interface frames it.
- Auto-refill is commonly on by default. Turn it off.
- Set a session budget in advance and stop at it.
Privacy
- Use a dedicated email address and a payment method that does not expose your name where avoidable.
- Check how the platform describes charges on a statement before you pay.
- Do not enable your own camera unless you have decided to, deliberately.
- Never share your location, workplace or other social accounts.
Performer welfare and legality
- Performers are workers. Recording or redistributing their streams is illegal in most jurisdictions and harms real people.
- Requests to move off-platform are usually either a scam or a policy breach that removes any recourse you had.
- Report anything that suggests a performer is underage or coerced. This matters more than any other consideration on this page.
