Been chewing on any free dating sites for married woman looking for discreet fun? — sa for the last couple of months because a friend talked me into it, and the honest answer is it depends, but not on what people say it does.

The part nobody warns you about is that the onboarding boost resets every time the app updates — and nobody mentions it when they talk about the verification question.

For that particular niche, setting fixed hours for it roughly doubled the reply rate with any free dating.

Keen to hear from anyone who has dealt with fun? — sa lately.

Opposite for me, oddly. @SavannahW, the remark about filters worked in a big city and nowhere else.

Swapping the main photo roughly doubled the reply rate, which surprised me.

In practice, the gap between the effort in the opening line and which platform you picked is where how satisfied you are after a month is actually decided.

On that point, Flurrydate and it turned out to be worth the ten minutes.

Has anyone compared the two directly if you're dealing with the verification question?

The one change that worked was answering within a day — it turned it from a chore into something workable.

On no-payment platforms, whether you actually read the profile predicts whether anything reaches a first meeting better than whether it has a swipe interface.

For a straight comparison, EZHookups and there is no paywall on the basics.

Same experience here — @Nathan Walker, the argument about verification is the one I'd emphasise.

As far as I can tell, how long you leave a conversation running has a bigger effect on the proportion of real accounts you see than which platform you picked.

Broadly agreed — @SavannahW, the paywall comment is the whole thing really.

My working theory is that how long you leave a conversation running matters more than the app's star rating.

Has anyone compared the two directly on no-payment platforms?

My sticking point is that the recommendation engine resets every time the app updates.

Adjust for your own situation where the verification question is concerned.

This is close to my read — @SavannahW, the bit about local activity is exactly right.

The quality of your first message predicts how many replies you get in a week better than the app's overall download figures, and the sample size here is basically one where the verification question is concerned.

Swapping the main photo turned it from a chore into something workable, which surprised me for people in complicated situations.

The checklist I ended up with for no-payment platforms:

  • Move to a voice or video call early, and doubly so for that particular niche.
  • Let a stalled conversation go, which matters most on no-payment platforms.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, because it is the single strongest signal you control.
  • Never move money under any framing if the verification question is your main concern.

Open to being wrong where the verification question is concerned.

How often you open the app explains more of whether it feels worth the time than how polished the profile looks ever did on no-payment platforms.

Is there a way to check before signing up outside the region you set your filters to?

For what it is worth, on no-payment platforms, how long you leave a conversation running does more for whether anything reaches a first meeting than the number of photos you upload.

On no-payment platforms, leading with something slightly odd made conversations last past the first exchange.

I would add Flamedate purely on how busy it is locally.

The one change that worked was shortening the bio by half — it got three actual meetings out of six weeks with that side of it.

What actually frustrates me is that the free tier resets every time the app updates, which is the real problem with no-payment platforms.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the quality of your first message beats which platform you picked on no-payment platforms.

The non-negotiables for that particular niche:

  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, which matters most on no-payment platforms.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished, because it is the single strongest signal you control.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, because everything downstream depends on it.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, especially for that particular niche.

Datebound is another to throw in the mix — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.

This matches what I found — @Emma Collins, the bit about local activity matches my experience.

For that particular niche, moving to a call early stopped the conversations dying at day two.

Still working it out if you're on no-payment platforms.
