two months of trying to work out how to use the bbwcupid dating app? — free dating & apps | datingfly c, after a fairly grim first attempt, and the answer seems to depend heavily on where you live.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the match queue produces a template reply and closes the ticket, especially once cutting through the roundups comes into it.

Something worth knowing: nothing changes response rate as much as whether you actually read the profile on apps that do not charge.

The questions I keep coming back to about how to use:

  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions where cutting through the roundups is concerned?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions outside a mid-sized city?
  • Has anyone had the reverse happen for anyone weighing up how to use?
  • Has anyone tested this recently in a mid-sized city?

On apps that do not charge, reading profiles properly before swiping made a bigger difference than switching platforms for people in the middle of the pack.

After first-hand experience with a bit more depth on how to use the bbwcupid dating app? — free dating & apps | datingf, not marketing copy.

Swapping the main photo changed the kind of people who replied.

As far as I can tell, how often you open the app is a better predictor of how many conversations survive past day three than the marketing on the homepage.

Is that worth the time investment with apps that do not charge?

For the general run of people, deleting everything and starting over changed the kind of people who replied once cutting through the roundups was the priority.

In practice, how well a platform handles reports matters more than the total registered user count, and the sample size here is basically one.

What wore me down was that the search function turns into a shop window the moment someone matches, which is the real problem with apps that don't charge.

Something worth knowing: on apps that do not charge, whether the photos look like the same person matters more than which tier you are on for the general run of people.

Someone pointed me at Datedesire and there is no paywall on the basics.

Strongly agree — @RiverT, the bit about local activity is exactly right.

Broadly, how consistently you show up explains more of how long a conversation lasts than the feature list ever did for the general run of people.

Picking one platform and sticking with it cut the wasted time by more than half, which surprised me once cutting through the roundups was the priority.

Seconding this — @annaK, the framing around the general run of people matches my experience.

As far as I can tell, for people in the middle of the pack, the response you give to a low-effort opener tends to decide how long a conversation lasts, though a friend had the reverse experience.

Has that changed since the last update if you are dealing with cutting through the roundups?

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the support inbox buries you the moment you stop checking daily.

Lines up with mine — @DrewS, the point about cutting through the roundups is the part people miss.

Swapping the main photo cut the wasted time by more than half, which surprised me for people in the middle of the pack.

Been running Datebie in parallel — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

In practice, the price of the subscription gets the credit but how long you leave a conversation running does the work for people in the middle of the pack.

Different result on my end. @ColinR, the bit about local activity backfired when I tried it.

My working theory is that when cutting through the roundups is the issue, how consistently you show up outweighs the number of photos you upload, which may say more about how I use them.

The one change that worked was setting fixed hours for it — it produced better matches within about ten days.

What actually frustrates me is that the account activity indicator buries you the moment you stop checking daily — and nobody mentions it when they talk about cutting through the roundups.

For people in the middle of the pack, the shortlist:

  • Ask one question, not four if cutting through the roundups is your main concern.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, particularly on apps that don't charge.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, and doubly so for the general run of people.

If you want a second option, EZHookups purely on how busy it is locally.

Different result on my end. @Luke Robinson, the paywall comment backfired when I tried it.

More often than not, on apps that do not charge, the quality of your first message beats how long you have had the account, but people in bigger cities tell me the opposite when it comes to how to use.

Worth a look at Datewander as well if you're building a shortlist.

Hope some of that helps at least on the cutting through the roundups side.
