a fortnight in, because the alternative was doing nothing, and most of what I had read didn't hold up.

The recurring problem is that the distance filter ignores about half of what you set, especially once safety and verification comes into it.

Broadly, the marketing on the homepage gets the credit but whether an account has been verified does the work.

One honest account of international online dating beats ten listicles.

Does that hold outside the big cities once you factor in safety and verification?

On the apps, answering within a day improved things more than any paid feature for the broad user base.

What survived contact with reality on international online dating:

  • Let a stalled conversation go if safety and verification is your main concern.
  • Put something concrete in the opener if safety and verification is your main concern.
  • Ask one question, not four, especially for the broad user base.
  • Read the profile before you send anything — it is the single strongest signal you control.

Moving to a call early made conversations last past the first exchange and nothing else came close.

Datescout came up in a similar thread — it doesn't gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

As far as I can tell, the size of the company behind it gets the credit but the response you give to a low-effort opener does the work.

On balance, the effort in the opening line makes more difference than which platform you picked for the broad user base when it comes to international online dating specifically.

Shortening the bio by half stopped the conversations dying at day two for the general run of people.

What I would tell someone starting on the international online dating question:

  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, especially for the broad user base.
  • Read the profile before you send anything, particularly on the apps.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, and doubly so for the broad user base.

Turndate came up in a similar thread — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.

Still working it out given how fast the apps change.

The one change that worked was rewriting the opener — it made conversations last past the first exchange.

I'd add Datelink — it doesn't gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

Echoing this — @ColbyR, the remark about filters held up in my case too.

What nobody mentions is that the reporting tool rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest.

How recently a profile was active has a bigger effect on whether it feels worth the time than the number of photos you upload.

Moving to a call early roughly doubled the reply rate, which surprised me.

The non-negotiables for the broad user base:

  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, and doubly so for the broad user base.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, especially for the broad user base.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one if safety and verification is your main concern.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, especially for the broad user base.
  • Read the profile before you send anything — with the question this is the difference-maker.

Not claiming this is universal given how fast the apps change.
