Is okcupid free version still better than the paid one?

I started looking at okcupid free version a fortnight ago after rewriting my profile for the third time, and the useful part surprised me.

The thing I did not expect was that on genuinely free apps, the photo verification step buries you the moment you stop checking daily.

The questions I keep coming back to about this okcupid free version problem:

  • Has that changed since the last update given deciding where to spend the effort?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions given deciding where to spend the effort?
  • Does that change much given deciding where to spend the effort?
  • Has anyone found the opposite for most people?
  • Does that match what others see for most people?

Putting one specific interest in the bio produced better matches within about ten days, which surprised me.

Keen to hear from anyone who has dealt with okcupid free version lately.

Has anyone found the opposite if you're dealing with deciding where to spend the effort?

The pattern I keep seeing is that the gap between the quality of your first message and the boost you paid for is where whether it feels worth the time is actually decided, though it varies enormously by city.

Worth a look at Flurrydate as well — sign-up is quick and the free tier is genuinely usable.

Rewriting the opener improved things more than any paid feature and nothing else came close.

I want to gently disagree. @KyleH, the paywall comment is closer to the opposite in my experience.

More often than not, the quality of your first message does more for the odds of a second date than which tier you're on.

Has that changed since the last update across genuinely free apps?

Datebie came up in a similar thread and was worth the time.

What nobody mentions is that for people in the middle of the pack, the support inbox gives you no idea when an account was last opened.

On genuinely free apps, how often you open the app beats how polished the profile looks where deciding where to spend the effort is concerned.

My working theory is that when deciding where to spend the effort is the issue, how often you open the app does more for the odds of a second date than the size of the company behind it, and the sample size here is basically one.

Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions on genuinely free apps?
