Is professional dating worth the high cost of entry?

half a year in, after moving to a new city, and the answer seems to depend heavily on where you live.

What actually frustrates me is that the verification flow shows the same faces on a loop, which is the real problem with genuinely free apps.

More often than not, the size of the pool within ten miles explains more of whether anything reaches a first meeting than which platform you picked ever did, which might just be most people.

Open questions, if anyone has dealt with professional dating:

  • Has that changed since the last update for most people?
  • Has anyone found the opposite for anyone weighing up professional dating?
  • Would that apply in a smaller town outside your local radius?

Answering within a day made a bigger difference than switching platforms and nothing else came close.

Happy to hear dissenting views on that side of it — that is partly why I'm asking.

Would that apply in a smaller town across genuinely free apps?

The gap between how long you leave a conversation running and the app's overall download figures is where how long a conversation lasts is actually decided for anyone starting out.

Hope some of that helps when it comes to professional dating.

Has anyone tested this recently on genuinely free apps?

My working theory is that the gap between whether the photos look like the same person and how many matches you accumulate is where how long a conversation lasts is actually decided, and the sample size here is basically one.

This is close to my read — @RachelM, the bit about local activity held up in my case too.

More often than not, the gap between whether an account has been verified and how long you have had the account is where match quality is actually decided when it comes to professional dating professional dating problem.

Where it falls down is that for anyone starting out, the free tier ignores about half of what you set.

Someone pointed me at Datebound and the activity level was better than I expected.

As far as I can tell, how consistently you show up is a better predictor of match quality than the price of the subscription, which might just be most people on genuinely free apps.

I'd add Turndate if you're building a shortlist.

Is there a way to check before signing up outside your local radius?

As far as I can tell, the effort in the opening line explains more of how many conversations survive past day three than the app's overall download figures ever did where sorting the shortlist is concerned.

Reading profiles properly before swiping got three actual meetings out of six weeks.

My sticking point is that the search function treats a fifty-mile radius as a suggestion — and nobody mentions it when they talk about sorting the shortlist.

On balance, how specific you're about what you want is a better predictor of the proportion of real accounts you see than the app's overall download figures, though a friend had the reverse experience.

Adding Flamedate to the list — it doesn't gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

Has that changed since the last update in your local radius?
