Is the aff dating app better than the website?

a fortnight in, after rewriting my profile for the third time, and most of what I had read did not hold up.

The thing I didn't expect was that the profile editor gives you no idea when an account was last opened, especially once picking one and committing comes into it.

Something worth knowing: how long you leave a conversation running is a better predictor of how many replies you get in a week than the number of photos you upload.

Open questions, if anyone has dealt with the aff dating app better than:

  • Is there a way to check before signing up in wherever you happen to live?
  • Does that hold outside the big cities across apps that do not charge?
  • Has anyone tested this recently once you factor in picking one and committing?

The one change that worked was setting fixed hours for it — it made the whole thing feel less like admin.

Happy to hear dissenting views on the aff dating — that is partly why I'm asking.

Can confirm — @Ava Mitchell, the advice about calling early is underrated.

Where it falls down is that the distance filter buries you the moment you stop checking daily, especially once picking one and committing comes into it.

Datebie has been the steadier of the ones I run if you want something to compare against.

Happy to be argued with on the this whole area question.

Does that match what others see with apps that do not charge?

Pretty much this — @Ava Mitchell, the bit about local activity matches my experience.

Shortening the bio by half made conversations last past the first exchange for most people.

Still working it out at least on the picking one and committing side.

Has anyone tested this recently for the average user?

Broadly, the quality of your first message is a better predictor of whether it feels worth the time than the price of the subscription in the the the aff dating app better than question context.

On apps that don't charge, putting one specific interest in the bio made a bigger difference than switching platforms.

On that point, Datelink and it turned out to be worth the ten minutes.

I'd push back a little. @DustinF, the advice about calling early didn't hold for me.

More often than not, when picking one and committing is the issue, the willingness to suggest meeting early does more for whether it feels worth the time than the marketing on the homepage, but that was months ago and things move.

I've had a decent run on Datelink — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

Does that match what others see for anyone weighing up the aff dating app better than?

Broadly, whether you actually read the profile does more for match quality than the feature list, though your area changes the picture completely for the average user.

Where it falls down is that the search function produces a template reply and closes the ticket, especially once picking one and committing comes into it.

The non-negotiables for the average user:

  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, and doubly so for the average user.
  • Move to a voice or video call early — with the aff dating app better than this is the difference-maker.
  • Set a daily time limit, particularly on apps that don't charge.
  • Let a stalled conversation go — it is the single strongest signal you control.

I would add EZHookups — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.
