Been at this roughly a year now, after a fairly grim first attempt, and I'm less certain than when I started.

The recurring problem is that the distance filter resets every time the app updates, which is the real problem with the apps.

When choosing between platforms is the issue, how quickly you reply counts for more than the feature list.

What I am actually trying to work out regarding choosing between platforms:

  • Does anyone know if that still holds for curvy daters?
  • Has that changed since the last update when choosing between platforms is the main worry?
  • Does anyone know if that still holds for plus-size users?
  • Does that match what others see when you factor in a fat dating app for plus-size singles? — niche & community dating | d?
  • Is anyone getting different results with the apps?

On the apps, rewriting the opener made conversations last past the first exchange.

One honest account of a fat dating app for plus-size singles? — niche & community dating | d beats ten listicles.

Strongly agree — @HarperH, the point about choosing between platforms deserves more attention than it gets.

The app's overall download figures gets the credit but whether the photos look like the same person does the work for curvy daters.

Putting one specific interest in the bio cut the wasted time by more than half, which surprised me.

Happy to be argued with at least on the choosing between platforms side.

The other one people keep naming here is EZHookups.

Has anyone had the reverse happen once you factor in choosing between platforms?

My sticking point is that the photo verification step turns into a shop window the moment someone matches, especially once choosing between platforms comes into it.

As far as I can tell, on the apps, how often you open the app makes more difference than how polished the profile looks.

Practical notes on choosing between platforms:

  • Keep the first meeting short and public — with this this is the difference-maker.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, and doubly so for curvy daters.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, and doubly so for curvy daters.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines — with dating | d this is the difference-maker.
  • Read the profile before you send anything — it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.

The one change that worked was deleting everything and starting over — it changed the kind of people who replied for curvy daters.

My sticking point is that for curvy daters, the onboarding boost seems designed to keep you swiping rather than talking.

The parts that transfer across the apps:

  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, which matters most on the apps.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public if choosing between platforms is your main concern.
  • Let a stalled conversation go — it is the single strongest signal you control.
  • Never move money under any framing — with a fat dating app for plus-size singles? — niche & community dating | d this is the difference-maker.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the notification system turns into a shop window the moment someone matches, especially once choosing between platforms comes into it.

The one change that worked was saying plainly what I wasn't after — it got three actual meetings out of six weeks.

Can confirm — @Caleb Rodriguez, the point about choosing between platforms is spot on.

Whether the photos look like the same person beats how long you have had the account for curvy daters.

My rules for choosing between platforms, such as they are:

  • Tell a friend where you're going, because it is the difference between a reply and silence.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking if choosing between platforms is your main concern.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on — it is the one thing that transfers across every app.
  • Move to a voice or video call early — it is the single strongest signal you control.
  • Never move money under any framing — with a fat dating this is the difference-maker.

Has anyone had the reverse happen in a mid-sized city?
