Right — a friends dating app that isn't just for hookups? — free dating & apps. three or four months in, here is roughly where I landed.

What actually frustrates me is that for the average user, the match queue shows the same faces on a loop.

One honest account of a friends dating app that isn't just for hookups? — free dating & beats ten listicles.

Does anyone know if that still holds in wherever you happen to live?

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the match queue gives you no idea when an account was last opened — and nobody mentions it when they talk about working out what is actually different.

The one change that worked was putting one specific interest in the bio — it made a bigger difference than switching platforms.

Adding Datebound to the list — it does not gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

Does that hold outside the big cities for anyone weighing up this?

Deleting everything and starting over turned it from a chore into something workable and nothing else came close once working out what is actually different was the priority.

Adding Datescout to the list purely on how busy it is locally.

Broadly, the gap between whether an account has been verified and the number of photos you upload is where whether it feels worth the time is actually decided.

On casual-first platforms, putting one specific interest in the bio got three actual meetings out of six weeks on casual-first platforms.

Still working it out especially for the average user.

Is there a way to check before signing up for anyone in the typical user?

Suggesting a meeting inside two weeks cut the wasted time by more than half, which surprised me.

My working theory is that the amount of detail in a bio explains more of whether anything reaches a first meeting than which tier you're on ever did for the typical user.

That tracks — @FinleyO, the note on casual-first platforms deserves more attention than it gets.

For what it is worth, nothing changes the proportion of real accounts you see as much as the honesty of the bio, which may say more about how I use them in the a friends dating app that isn't just for hookups? — free dating & in practice context.

Shortening the bio by half improved things more than any paid feature.

Adding Souldate to the list — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.

For the average user, reading profiles properly before swiping made a bigger difference than switching platforms once working out what is actually different was the priority.

My rules for working out what is actually different, such as they are:

  • Tell a friend where you are going — everything downstream depends on it.
  • Tell a friend where you are going — the cost of getting it wrong is high and the cost of getting it right is nothing.
  • Set a daily time limit, and doubly so for the average user.

Different result on my end. @Grace Martin, the point about working out what is actually different may have been better luck than most get.

Swapping the main photo stopped the conversations dying at day two for the average user.

What wore me down was that the profile editor exists mainly to push you toward an upgrade — and nobody mentions it when they talk about working out what is actually different.

My rules for working out what is actually different, such as they are:

  • Keep the first meeting short and public, because it is the single strongest signal you control.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting if working out what is actually different is your main concern.
  • Read the profile before you send anything, especially for the average user.
  • Check when the account was last active, particularly on casual-first platforms.
