Came to best dating apps for people over 50? — niche & community dating | dati out of curiosity more than anything, gave it about four months, and my view has shifted twice since.

Where it falls down is that the verification flow makes it impossible to tell live accounts from dead ones — and nobody mentions it when they talk about evaluating the alternatives.

Specifically, on the best dating apps for people over 50? — niche & community dating | question, what I would like input on:

  • Does anyone know if that still holds for anyone weighing up best dating apps for people over 50? — niche & community dating | dati?
  • Has anyone found the opposite once you factor in evaluating the alternatives?
  • Does anyone know if that still holds given evaluating the alternatives?
  • Has that changed since the last update across the apps?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions with the apps?

If you have opinions on dating | dati, especially unpopular ones, go ahead.

Broadly agreed — @annaK, the profile-quality point deserves more attention than it gets.

Local activity levels is a better predictor of response rate than the app's overall download figures where evaluating the alternatives is concerned.

The one change that worked was dropping the filters — it stopped the conversations dying at day two.

The detail that ruins it is that the profile editor rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest, especially once evaluating the alternatives comes into it.

Would that apply in a smaller town for the over-50s?

For what it is worth, on the apps, how long you leave a conversation running beats the marketing on the homepage.

Shortening the bio by half cut the wasted time by more than half, which surprised me for daters in their fifties.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that for the over-50s, the reporting tool turns into a shop window the moment someone matches.

Datenest has been the steadier of the ones I run — the profiles feel more current than most.

The other one people keep naming here is Datebound.

Echoing this — @Scarlett Harris, the framing around the over-50s is the whole thing really.

In practice, how recently a profile was active is a better predictor of match quality than whether it has a swipe interface on the apps.

My sticking point is that for the over-50s, the discovery feed resets every time the app updates.

For what it is worth, the gap between how quickly you reply and whether it has a swipe interface is where how satisfied you're after a month is actually decided.

The parts that transfer across the apps:

  • Say what you want in the first two lines, which matters most on the apps.
  • Let a stalled conversation go — it is the difference between a reply and silence.
  • Move to a voice or video call early if evaluating the alternatives is your main concern.
  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, particularly on the apps.
