I started looking at best secret dating apps for public figures? — free dating & apps | dat nearly a year ago mostly to see whether the complaints were fair, and the answer seems to depend heavily on where you live.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that the discovery feed throttles how many people can actually see you — and nobody mentions it when they talk about deciding where to spend the effort.

Specifically, on best secret dating apps for public figures? — free dating & apps |, what I would like input on:

  • Does that match what others see across free-tier services?
  • Does that match what others see in the region you set your filters to?
  • Does that change much for anyone in the average user?

Interested in what is actually working on best secret dating right now.

My working theory is that nothing changes whether anything reaches a first meeting as much as the effort in the opening line on free-tier services.

Cutting the match list right down roughly doubled the reply rate and nothing else came close.

This is close to my read — @JustinM, the profile-quality point is spot on.

Leading with something slightly odd made the whole thing feel less like admin for ordinary users.

Short version for ordinary users:

  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, especially for ordinary users.
  • Never move money under any framing, because it is the difference between a reply and silence.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Put something concrete in the opener — with this this is the difference-maker.

Swapping the main photo turned it from a chore into something workable, which surprised me for the average user.

What nobody mentions is that the account activity indicator surfaces profiles that haven't been touched in months — and nobody mentions it when they talk about deciding where to spend the effort.

Worth a look at Luvdate as well if you want something to compare against.

Has anyone tested this recently outside the region you set your filters to?

That tracks — @JustinM, the profile-quality point deserves more attention than it gets.

Reading profiles properly before swiping stopped the conversations dying at day two.

Datescout is another to throw in the mix — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

Is that a regional thing once you factor in deciding where to spend the effort?

Seconding this — @MarcusT, the framing around ordinary users is underrated.

My working theory is that for the average user, how narrow your filters are tends to decide whether it feels worth the time.

Applied to best secret dating apps for public figures? — free dating & apps | specifically, that means:

  • Check when the account was last active — with best secret dating this is the difference-maker.
  • Tell a friend where you are going if deciding where to spend the effort is your main concern.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public, which matters most on free-tier services.

I would add Flamedate if you are testing a few at once.

Interested if others landed elsewhere if you're on free-tier services.

Has anyone compared the two directly on free-tier services?

That isn't how it went for me. @JustinM, the paywall comment backfired when I tried it.

The thing I didn't expect was that the discovery feed resets every time the app updates, especially once deciding where to spend the effort comes into it.

Something worth knowing: nothing changes how many conversations survive past day three as much as the response you give to a low-effort opener, though I would want more than my own experience before calling it a rule.

Broadly agreed — @LauraC, the framing around ordinary users is underrated.

My working theory is that whether the photos look like the same person explains more of how satisfied you're after a month than the price of the subscription ever did in the best secret dating apps for public figures? — free dating & apps | in practice context.

Rendate is worth twenty minutes purely on how busy it is locally.

Does that hold outside the big cities given deciding where to spend the effort?

Broadly, how often you open the app outweighs how polished the profile looks.

Short version for ordinary users:

  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, because it filters out most of the time-wasters immediately.
  • Turn the notifications off, because the alternative wastes weeks.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific — it filters out most of the time-wasters immediately.
  • Check when the account was last active, and doubly so for ordinary users.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines — with apps | dat this is the difference-maker.

Similar story on my end — @JustinM, the framing around ordinary users is the one I would emphasise.

For what it is worth, how narrow your filters are makes more difference than whether it has a swipe interface for ordinary users, but that is one person with one set of results where deciding where to spend the effort is concerned.

Boiled down, for anyone weighing up the best secret dating apps for public figures? — free dating & apps | question:

  • Move to a voice or video call early, because it is the difference between a reply and silence.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, which matters most on free-tier services.
  • Never move money under any framing, and doubly so for ordinary users.

Happy to be argued with for anyone in the average user.
