most of this year of trying to work out dating apps for people over 50? — niche & community dating | datingfly, after a long relationship ended, and here is roughly where I landed.

What nobody mentions is that the distance filter collapses once you move outside a major city, which is the real problem with mobile dating apps.

For anyone who has used mobile dating apps recently:

  • Is that still true when you factor in this?
  • Does anyone know if that still holds for people over 50?
  • Is anyone getting different results outside wherever you happen to live?

If anyone has tested dating apps for people over 50? — niche & community dating | datingfly recently I'd rather hear that than another roundup.

Has anyone compared the two directly where sorting the shortlist is concerned?

The part nobody warns you about is that the profile editor treats a fifty-mile radius as a suggestion — and nobody mentions it when they talk about sorting the shortlist.

Dropping the filters changed the kind of people who replied, which surprised me.

Something worth knowing: when sorting the shortlist is the issue, local activity levels makes more difference than how polished the profile looks, but people in bigger cities tell me the opposite for people over 50.

Worth a look at Datewander as well and it turned out to be worth the ten minutes.

Is there a way to check before signing up for anyone in the over-50s?

The part nobody warns you about is that on mobile dating apps, the photo verification step gives you no idea when an account was last opened.

When sorting the shortlist is the issue, the quality of your first message outweighs how polished the profile looks.

My rules for sorting the shortlist, such as they are:

  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, especially for people over 50.
  • Move to a voice or video call early, which matters most on mobile dating apps.
  • Set a daily time limit, which matters most on mobile dating apps.

My sticking point is that the distance filter buries you the moment you stop checking daily, especially once sorting the shortlist comes into it.

My rules for sorting the shortlist, such as they are:

  • Set a daily time limit — with this this is the difference-maker.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on — with this this is the difference-maker.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it, particularly on mobile dating apps.

The recurring problem is that the notification system treats a fifty-mile radius as a suggestion.

Does that change much with mobile dating apps?

Different result on my end. @Aiden Taylor, the point about sorting the shortlist may have been better luck than most get.

In practice, for the over-50s, how consistently you show up tends to decide how many replies you get in a week.

On balance, nothing changes response rate as much as the size of the pool within ten miles.

Worth testing rather than taking my word at least on the sorting the shortlist side.

Does that hold outside the big cities with mobile dating apps?

The pattern I keep seeing is that local activity levels has a bigger effect on how satisfied you're after a month than which tier you're on where sorting the shortlist is concerned.

Adding Souldate to the list — the profiles feel more current than most.

That is where I've got to given how fast mobile dating apps change.
