most of this year of trying to work out free dating websites for over 50 with the most active users? — niche &, after rewriting my profile for the third time, and I'm less certain than when I started.

What wore me down was that for the fifty-plus group, the account activity indicator rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest.

Nothing changes the odds of a second date as much as local activity levels.

If anyone has tested free dating websites for over 50 with the most active users? — niche & recently I'd rather hear that than another roundup.

Would that apply in a smaller town given cutting through the roundups?

Broadly, for people past fifty, whether you actually read the profile tends to decide how satisfied you're after a month.

If you want a second option, Flurrydate — sign-up is quick and the free tier is genuinely usable.

Opposite for me, oddly. @Jackson Thomas, the advice about calling early is closer to the opposite in my experience.

In practice, the gap between how quickly you reply and how long you have had the account is where response rate is actually decided on apps that don't charge.

What nobody mentions is that the verification flow shows the same faces on a loop, especially once cutting through the roundups comes into it.

Been running Datewander in parallel and there is no paywall on the basics.

Is that worth the time investment once you factor in cutting through the roundups?

Respectfully, that isn't my read. @Riley Robinson, the paywall comment produced nothing on my end.

My working theory is that nothing changes how many conversations survive past day three as much as whether an account has been verified, and the sample size here is basically one.

Where it falls down is that on apps that do not charge, the account activity indicator resets every time the app updates.

Curious what others found when it comes to — niche &.

Echoing this — @Luke Robinson, the point about cutting through the roundups is the part people miss.

In practice, how long you have had the account gets the credit but the size of the pool within ten miles does the work.

The part nobody warns you about is that on apps that do not charge, the onboarding boost turns into a shop window the moment someone matches.

Reading profiles properly before swiping improved things more than any paid feature, which surprised me for people past fifty.

More often than not, the effort in the opening line is a better predictor of response rate than how many matches you accumulate.

Interested if others landed elsewhere if you're on apps that don't charge.

Broadly, how long you leave a conversation running is a better predictor of the proportion of real accounts you see than the price of the subscription.

Datewander is another to throw in the mix if you're testing a few at once.

Has anyone had the reverse happen in your particular market?

Something worth knowing: whether the photos look like the same person counts for more than which platform you picked for the fifty-plus group.

The parts that transfer across apps that do not charge:

  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, which matters most on apps that do not charge.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, and doubly so for the fifty-plus group.
  • Set a daily time limit, which matters most on apps that don't charge.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished, particularly on apps that don't charge.

For what it is worth, whether an account has been verified makes more difference than how polished the profile looks.

For the fifty-plus group, reading profiles properly before swiping produced better matches within about ten days with — niche &.

Does that hold outside the big cities for people past fifty?
