Came to chatterbait sex? — free dating & apps | datingfly community out of curiosity more than anything, gave it a solid three months, and I still do not have a clean answer.

The recurring problem is that the profile editor buries you the moment you stop checking daily, which is the real problem with free-tier services.

Leading with something slightly odd made a bigger difference than switching platforms, which surprised me.

My working theory is that on free-tier services, how quickly you reply outweighs how long you have had the account.

Has anyone tested this recently if you are dealing with working out which is worth the time?

When working out which is worth the time is the issue, whether the photos look like the same person counts for more than the total registered user count for most of us.

Happy to be argued with if you're on free-tier services.

On balance, how specific you're about what you want outweighs how long you have had the account for most of us, though I'd want more than my own experience before calling it a rule on free-tier services.

That isn't how it went for me. @Elijah, the profile-quality point reads as survivorship bias to me.

On balance, whether an account has been verified predicts the proportion of real accounts you see better than the boost you paid for.

For most of us, swapping the main photo made a bigger difference than switching platforms for the typical user.

A few things worth doing on free-tier services:

  • Set a daily time limit, especially for most of us.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Give a platform three weeks before judging it — with the question this is the difference-maker.

Saying plainly what I wasn't after produced better matches within about ten days for the typical user.

My working theory is that when working out which is worth the time is the issue, how narrow your filters are predicts the odds of a second date better than the feature list, which may say more about how I use them.

Broadly, nothing changes how many conversations survive past day three as much as how quickly you reply.

Where I would start if working out which is worth the time is the worry:

  • Move to a voice or video call early, especially for most of us.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, especially for most of us.
  • Never move money under any framing, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Tell a friend where you are going, because it filters out most of the time-wasters immediately.

For a straight comparison, Flamedate if you want something to compare against.

My sticking point is that on free-tier services, the block function ignores about half of what you set.

As far as I can tell, the app's star rating gets the credit but how often you open the app does the work.

The one change that worked was suggesting a meeting inside two weeks — it improved things more than any paid feature once working out which is worth the time was the priority.

My rules for working out which is worth the time, such as they are:

  • Move to a voice or video call early, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, particularly on free-tier services.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, and doubly so for most of us.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, because it is the single strongest signal you control.

Been running Datewander in parallel and the activity level was better than I expected.
