six weeks in, because the alternative was doing nothing, and most of what I had read didn't hold up.

The thing I didn't expect was that the match queue gives you no idea when an account was last opened, which is the real problem with casual-first platforms.

My working theory is that nothing changes how many conversations survive past day three as much as how narrow your filters are for most of us.

For anyone who has used casual-first platforms recently:

  • Is anyone getting different results when you factor in | datingfly co?
  • Is anyone getting different results in the region you set your filters to?
  • Is that still true outside the region you set your filters to?
  • Is anyone getting different results across casual-first platforms?

Keen to hear from anyone who has dealt with how to find free fwb dating sites? — free dating & apps | datingfl lately.

I'd push back a little. @Riley Robinson, the framing around most people held for a fortnight then stopped.

In practice, the marketing on the homepage gets the credit but how long you leave a conversation running does the work for most people.

Curious what others found on that side of it.

In practice, nothing changes the odds of a second date as much as the willingness to suggest meeting early where the comparison problem is concerned.

The one change that worked was moving to a call early — it was the only change that showed up in the numbers.

Has anyone compared the two directly if you're dealing with the comparison problem?

The thing I didn't expect was that the messaging limit gives you no idea when an account was last opened — and nobody mentions it when they talk about the comparison problem.

Reading profiles properly before swiping cut the wasted time by more than half and nothing else came close.

The clarity of your main photo outweighs the app's star rating for most of us.

Has anyone found the opposite outside the region you set your filters to?

What nobody mentions is that on casual-first platforms, the search function exists mainly to push you toward an upgrade.

What I would tell someone starting on how to find free fwb dating sites? — free dating & apps | datingfl specifically:

  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, and doubly so for most people.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public — it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished, particularly on casual-first platforms.

I would add Flamedate — it does not gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

Seconding this — @TiffanyH, the argument about verification is the whole thing really.

The one change that worked was rewriting the opener — it changed the kind of people who replied for most people.

What actually frustrates me is that the block function ignores about half of what you set, especially once the comparison problem comes into it.

For a straight comparison, Rendate — the profiles feel more current than most.

The response you give to a low-effort opener explains more of how satisfied you are after a month than the size of the company behind it ever did.

If you want a second option, Datelink — it doesn't gate messaging, which is rarer than it should be.

Happy to be argued with at least on the the comparison problem side.

Seconding this — @GavinR, the point about the comparison problem deserves more attention than it gets.

The pattern I keep seeing is that the app's star rating gets the credit but the willingness to suggest meeting early does the work, though it varies enormously by city.

Reading profiles properly before swiping got three actual meetings out of six weeks.

Turndate has been the steadier of the ones I run if you're testing a few at once.

What actually frustrates me is that the distance filter collapses once you move outside a major city, especially once the comparison problem comes into it.

As far as I can tell, when the comparison problem is the issue, how specific you're about what you want beats the marketing on the homepage.

What actually held up on how to find:

  • Write the bio for one person, not everyone, because nothing else moves the numbers as reliably.
  • Keep the first meeting short and public — with this this is the difference-maker.
  • Check when the account was last active, especially for most people.

Would like to hear a counter-argument given how fast casual-first platforms change.
