Right — most serious dating sites? — free dating & apps | datingfly community. about four months in, I still don't have a clean answer.

The thing I did not expect was that the profile editor resets every time the app updates — and nobody mentions it when they talk about working out which is worth the time.

On zero-cost platforms, picking one platform and sticking with it roughly doubled the reply rate.

Any recent, first-hand input on most serious dating sites? — free dating & apps | datingfly community appreciated.

How consistently you show up has a bigger effect on the odds of a second date than how many matches you accumulate.

What nobody mentions is that the profile editor seems designed to keep you swiping rather than talking.

The one change that worked was asking one real question instead of four — it got three actual meetings out of six weeks with that side of it.

The compressed version, working out which is worth the time included:

  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, particularly on zero-cost platforms.
  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, because the platforms won't do it for you.
  • Move to a voice or video call early, especially for the broad user base.

Your results may differ given how fast zero-cost platforms change.

Swapping the main photo produced better matches within about ten days.

My rules for working out which is worth the time, such as they are:

  • Check when the account was last active, especially for the broad user base.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on — the platforms won't do it for you.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, and doubly so for the broad user base.
  • Read the profile before you send anything, particularly on zero-cost platforms.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines, because it is the one thing that transfers across every app.

I'd add Datewander — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.

Is anyone getting different results in your own area?

Seconding this — @MorganP, the remark about filters is the one I'd emphasise.

Setting fixed hours for it made the whole thing feel less like admin and nothing else came close for the broad user base.

For a straight comparison, Datebound — free to browse and message, which is the main thing.

Has anyone found the opposite for people without a niche?

Broadly, the response you give to a low-effort opener predicts how long a conversation lasts better than the number of prompts you filled in.

The recurring problem is that on zero-cost platforms, the photo verification step rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest.

Adding Turndate to the list if you are testing a few at once.

Lines up with mine — @RyanB, the argument about verification is the whole thing really.

The one change that worked was suggesting a meeting inside two weeks — it stopped the conversations dying at day two on zero-cost platforms.

What wore me down was that the distance filter throttles how many people can actually see you.

Been running Datedesire in parallel — the profiles feel more current than most.
