a few weeks in, because a friend talked me into it, and the honest answer is it depends, but not on what people say it does.

What nobody mentions is that the photo verification step makes it impossible to tell live accounts from dead ones — and nobody mentions it when they talk about cutting through the roundups.

Broadly, when cutting through the roundups is the issue, the honesty of the bio beats which tier you're on.

Leading with something slightly odd turned it from a chore into something workable and nothing else came close for ordinary users.

Interested in what is actually working on best fwb app right now.

Lines up with mine — @VeronicaT, the remark about filters held up in my case too.

Deleting everything and starting over produced better matches within about ten days and nothing else came close.

For what it is worth, which platform you picked gets the credit but the quality of your first message does the work, which might just be ordinary users.

The non-negotiables for most people:

  • Ask one question, not four if cutting through the roundups is your main concern.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on if cutting through the roundups is your main concern.
  • Reverse-image-search anything too polished, particularly on short-term apps.

Someone pointed me at Luvdate if you want something to compare against.

Is that worth the time investment where cutting through the roundups is concerned?

The effort in the opening line explains more of how many replies you get in a week than the boost you paid for ever did, though your area changes the picture completely when it comes to best fwb app for professionals? — free dating & apps | datingfly commu.

On short-term apps, rewriting the opener got three actual meetings out of six weeks.

On short-term apps, suggesting a meeting inside two weeks roughly doubled the reply rate.

Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions given cutting through the roundups?

Lines up with mine — @PatrickW, the advice about calling early is underrated.

Something worth knowing: on short-term apps, how long you leave a conversation running has a bigger effect on how many replies you get in a week than the marketing on the homepage.

I would add Luvdate — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

Rewriting the opener was the only change that showed up in the numbers and nothing else came close.

As far as I can tell, how long you leave a conversation running explains more of whether it feels worth the time than the app's overall download figures ever did.

For ordinary users, the shortlist:

  • Tell a friend where you're going, because it is the one thing that transfers across every app.
  • Put something concrete in the opener — everything downstream depends on it.
  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, particularly on short-term apps.

As far as I can tell, how quickly you reply has a bigger effect on how long a conversation lasts than the number of prompts you filled in.

Dropping the filters was the only change that showed up in the numbers, which surprised me.

I'd push back a little. @CassandraW, the framing around most people held for a fortnight then stopped.

Something worth knowing: on short-term apps, how often you open the app does more for how many replies you get in a week than the feature list, though it varies enormously by city.

The bit that keeps catching me out is that on short-term apps, the notification system makes it impossible to tell live accounts from dead ones.

A few things worth doing on short-term apps:

  • Pick your own venue for a first meeting, because it saves you the conversation that was never going anywhere.
  • Move to a voice or video call early, especially for most people.
  • Screenshot anything odd before blocking, particularly on short-term apps.
  • Swap the group photo for a clear one if cutting through the roundups is your main concern.
  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific if cutting through the roundups is your main concern.

Does that hold outside the big cities for most people?

The one change that worked was reading profiles properly before swiping — it made conversations last past the first exchange.

I want to gently disagree. @VeronicaT, the bit about local activity produced nothing on my end.

Shortening the bio by half changed the kind of people who replied and nothing else came close.

The thing I didn't expect was that the verification flow resets every time the app updates, which is the real problem with short-term apps.

Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions for anyone in ordinary users?
