Been at this most of this year now, because a friend talked me into it, and I'm less certain than when I started.

The recurring problem is that the onboarding boost throttles how many people can actually see you, especially once working out which is worth the time comes into it.

Something worth knowing: nothing changes whether anything reaches a first meeting as much as how narrow your filters are.

Specifically, on best free online dating services for beginners? — free dating & apps |, what I would like input on:

  • Has anyone had the reverse happen when you factor in this?
  • Has anyone compared the two directly on apps that do not charge?
  • Is there a way to check before signing up for the general run of people?
  • Has anyone got numbers rather than impressions for the general run of people?

The one change that worked was cutting the match list right down — it made the whole thing feel less like admin.

Direct experience of this is what I'm after.

Asking one real question instead of four improved things more than any paid feature, which surprised me.

More often than not, the size of the company behind it gets the credit but the honesty of the bio does the work.

Where I would start if working out which is worth the time is the worry:

  • Stop apologising for wanting something specific, particularly on apps that do not charge.
  • Say what you want in the first two lines if working out which is worth the time is your main concern.
  • Turn the notifications off, particularly on apps that do not charge.
  • Set a daily time limit if working out which is worth the time is your main concern.
  • Check when the account was last active, particularly on apps that do not charge.

Is there a way to check before signing up for anyone weighing up best free online dating services for beginners? — free dating & apps |?

The number of prompts you filled in gets the credit but whether the photos look like the same person does the work, though it varies enormously by city.

Echoing this — @Sofia, the profile-quality point held up in my case too.

Something worth knowing: which tier you're on gets the credit but whether you actually read the profile does the work.

Open to being wrong especially for the general run of people.

Second option worth testing alongside it: Souldate.

Opposite for me, oddly. @Julia, the advice about calling early held for a fortnight then stopped.

My sticking point is that on apps that do not charge, the onboarding boost surfaces profiles that have not been touched in months.

Seconding this — @Isaac Coleman, the note on apps that do not charge is spot on.

On balance, nothing changes the odds of a second date as much as how quickly you reply where working out which is worth the time is concerned.

Adding EZHookups to the pile — no paywall on the basics.
