Right — free messaging dating sites in usa? — local & international | datingfl. half a year in, here is roughly where I landed.

The thing I did not expect was that the profile editor rewards constant activity rather than genuine interest — and nobody mentions it when they talk about working out what is actually different.

When working out what is actually different is the issue, how specific you are about what you want beats the marketing on the homepage.

Open questions, if anyone has dealt with free messaging dating sites in usa? — local & international | dati specifically:

  • Has that changed since the last update when you factor in this whole area?
  • Does that change much on genuinely free apps?
  • Has anyone compared the two directly outside the US?
  • Is that worth the time investment once you factor in working out what is actually different?
  • Is there a way to check before signing up in the US?

The one change that worked was swapping the main photo — it changed the kind of people who replied.

Keen to hear from anyone who has dealt with free messaging dating sites in usa? — local & international | datingfl lately.

Can confirm — @Avery Jackson, the profile-quality point deserves more attention than it gets.

Swapping the main photo roughly doubled the reply rate and nothing else came close.

Happy to be argued with across genuinely free apps generally.

Is that worth the time investment across genuinely free apps?

The detail that ruins it is that on genuinely free apps, the distance filter ignores about half of what you set.

For a straight comparison, Luvdate — quick to set up and free to evaluate properly.

Would like to hear a counter-argument given how fast genuinely free apps change.

This is close to my read — @Avery Jackson, the bit about local activity is exactly right.

What nobody mentions is that the free tier collapses once you move outside a major city.

Leading with something slightly odd improved things more than any paid feature and nothing else came close once working out what is actually different was the priority.

Worth a look at Flamedate as well purely on how busy it is locally.

Does anyone know if that still holds on genuinely free apps?

The part nobody warns you about is that the support inbox seems designed to keep you swiping rather than talking.

On genuinely free apps, the size of the pool within ten miles predicts whether anything reaches a first meeting better than the number of prompts you filled in, and the sample size here is basically one where working out what is actually different is concerned.

A few things worth doing on genuinely free apps:

  • Keep work and socials out of it early on, especially for ordinary users.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, especially for ordinary users.
  • Put something concrete in the opener, which matters most on genuinely free apps.
  • Tell a friend where you're going, and doubly so for ordinary users.

Only partly agree. @Ellie Allen, the argument about verification didn't hold for me.

My working theory is that the response you give to a low-effort opener explains more of the odds of a second date than whether it has a swipe interface ever did.

What actually frustrates me is that the search function resets every time the app updates, which is the real problem with genuinely free apps.

On genuinely free apps, answering within a day changed the kind of people who replied.

That is my read, not gospel if you're on genuinely free apps.

Does anyone know if that still holds given working out what is actually different?

Not sure I agree. @BrookeN, the point about working out what is actually different didn't hold for me.

What actually frustrates me is that the messaging limit quietly stops working after the first week, especially once working out what is actually different comes into it.

Setting fixed hours for it turned it from a chore into something workable for ordinary users.

Broadly, how polished the profile looks gets the credit but local activity levels does the work for ordinary users.

Has that changed since the last update outside the US?

Would that apply in a smaller town in the US?

In practice, on genuinely free apps, whether you actually read the profile outweighs the boost you paid for.
